Direct Response Copywriting

Direct response copywriting has one fundamental goal – to motivate an action.

While there are several approaches to this form of copywriting, there are a few key rules that can't be denied. For example, you must offer your prospect some sort of meaningful promise and make it believable. You need to set yourself apart from the competition; and always emphasize what's important, not what's obvious. And lastly, make it worthwhile to act immediately.

Good direct-response copywriting immediately captures the reader's attention, and keeps them interested throughout. Do this by telling a story, appealing to emotion, or presenting yourself as the authority on the related subject.

Always remember to keep the focus on the reader. Don't just list features – tell them how those features will make their life better.

Reinforce your message with testimonials, a profitable price/value relationship and a product or service guarantee. And of course, always include an offer.

Once you have completed your direct-response prospecting letter, self-mailer, email or advertisement, remember it is always a work in progress and that you must continuously test it against other versions to ensure that your champion piece is always a success.
