| Web Graphics Graphic design for the Web involves a different concept than that of traditional print graphics. While Web graphics maintain a central role in capturing attention and conveying a message, in cyber space, the design is more centered on file size and loading speed than on image quality. Also, to enhance your site's search engine optimization, you'll want to name your files carefully so that search engine spiders know what the graphics portray. A search engine spider can only read code, so if the file is not named relative to your potential keywords, these search engine crawlers will not see a connection. The Web also allows for exciting new limits for graphic design with the advent of Flash animation. Depending on your site, these animated graphics can add a considerable sense of emotion to your site. While I think these graphics are fantastic options for consumer sites, business oriented sites should be careful not to go overboard with fancy tricks or too much movement as it often distracts users from their original course of action – searching for useful information. Personally, I prefer to design with static images. But I know many talented designers who love to work with Flash and I would be happy to refer you. It really is a personal preference whether you choose to use simple images or animated graphics. As with any design, you want your Web pages to have a clear visual hierarchy that guides the eyes and draws attention to your message. For assistance in designing your Web graphics, email me today. |
